Wilton Joseph Poirrier, son of William and Emelie (Dupuis) Poirrier, was born July 5, 1905 in Lutcher, Louisiana. He was inducted into the Army June 6, 1941 at Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to joining the Army he was working at the Celotex Corporation in Raceland, Louisiana. He was a member of Company K, 320th Infantry Regiment and was awarded the American Campaign Service Medal on April 15, 1943 for guarding the locks at Sault Ste Marie while stationed at Fort Brady, Michigan. Pvt Wilton J Poirrier landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 6, 1944 and was killed in action by artillery shell fragments July 15, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
