Virgil Stanley Pollock, son of Ernest Brandan and Leola (Pennington) Pollock, was born July 4, 1919 in Henryville, Tennessee. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Toledo, Ohio. He was inducted into the Army December 17, 1941 at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio and served as a Messenger in Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion, 320th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 6, 1944. Pfc Virgil S Pollock was killed in action by artillery shell fragments July 25, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge July 31, 1944. He is buried at Henryville Cemetery, Henryville, Tennessee.
