Charles Hampton Ramsey, son of Stephen James and Agnes Margaret (Swygert) Ramsey, was born June 23, 1924 in Ensley, Alabama. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he worked for Atlantic and Pacific Tea in Fairview, Alabama. He was inducted into the Army March 16, 1943 and served in Company H, 320th Infantry Regiment, landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy France on July 7, 1944. He was promoted to Sergeant August 11, 1944. Sgt Charles H Ramsey was killed in action by artillery shell fragments September 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Bayon, south of Nancy, France. He is buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.
