Company C - 320th Infantry Regiment

William John Serrell, Jr, son of William John and Bessie Mae (Golden) Serrell, was born June 11, 1911 in Schenectady, New York. He married Lydia Molnar October 24, 1936 and the couple had a son, John Serrell born June 10 1943. He registered for the draft October 14, 1940, was inducted into the Army February 1, 1944, and received his basic training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. He joined Company C, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 48th Replacement Battalion on August 9th and was killed in action 4 days later on August 13, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 20, 1944. Pvt. William J. Serrell, Jr is buried at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, New York.
