James Howard Shiflett, son of Charlie Jackson and Artice May (Wood) Shiflett, was born March 4, 1924 in Randolph County, Alabama. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Pisgah, Alabama. He was inducted into the Army October 9, 1943 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He joined Company C, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 48th Replacement Battalion August 9, 1944 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge on August 20, 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class October 12, 1944. Pfc James H Shiflett was initially reported missing and was later confirmed killed in action November 22, 1944 in the vicinity of Grostenquin, France. He is buried at Epinal American Cemetery, Epinal, France.
