Company L - 320th Infantry Regiment

Bernard Harley Shimp, son of Clement Leard and Nancy Jane (Stoner) Shimp, was born August 21, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio. He registered for the draft August 20, 1943 and was inducted into the Army January 15, 1944. He joined Company L, 320th Infantry Regiment November 17, 1944 from the 38th Replacement Battalion and served as a Rifleman. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge December 1, 1944. Pvt Bernard H Shimp was originally reported missing in action. It was later confirmed that he had been killed in action by artillery shell fragments December 16, 1944 in the vicinity of Gersheim, Germany. He is buried at Brock Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio.
