Richard Allen Stone, Jr, son of Richard Allen and Inez Judson (Williams) Stone, was born May 18, 1924 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the Army January 25, 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He served as an Ammunition Handler in Company F, Second Battalion, 320th Infantry Regiment, was promoted to Private First Class July 1, 1944 and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on July 6, 1944. He was awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge July 31 and the Combat Infantryman Badge August 20, 1944. Pfc Richard A Stone, Jr was killed in action December 18, 1944. The day of his death, troops of the Second Battalion, 320th Infantry Regiment (of which Company F was a part) attacked and seized the town of Niedergailbach, Germany just across the French-German border, thus securing for the regiment the first town within the German Reich. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
