James Carl Stroud, son of Clarence and Edith (Haney) Stroud, was born October 9, 1923 in Huntsville, Arkansas. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942, was inducted into the Army in March 1943, and joined Company L, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion on July 30, 1944. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 20 and promoted to Private First Class October 4, 1944. He was wounded in action by artillery shell fragments December 8, 1944 in the vicinity of Wittring, France on the west bank of the Saar River and returned to duty December 19, 1944. Pfc James C Stroud was killed in action January 6, 1945 in the vicinity of Baschleiden, Luxembourg, southeast of Bastogne, Belgium. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm. Luxembourg.
