Company K - 320th Infantry Regiment

Obert Edwin Torkelson, son of Martin and Elizabeth (Walvatne) Torkelson, was born August 24, 1920 in West Union, Iowa. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he was living in Eugene, Oregon and working at the State Board of Higher Education. He was inducted into the Army August 24, 1942 at Portland Oregon. He joined Company K, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion on July 14, 1944 and served as a Rifleman. Pfc Obert E Torkelson was reported missing July 28, 1944 in the vicinity of Torigni Sur Vire, south of St Lo, France. It was later confirmed that he had been killed in action. He is buried at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint-James, France.
