George William Work, son of Clyde and Jessie (Emery) Work, was born September 29, 1914 in Cadiz, Ohio. He married Helen Pauline Rust on May 23, 1936 and the couple had two daughters, Beverly Jean and Judy. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army April 27, 1944 at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He joined Company L, 320th Infantry Regiment November 17, 1944 from the 38th Replacement Battalion and served as a Rifleman. Originally reported missing November 20, it was later confirmed that he had been killed in action by artillery shrapnel on December 3, 1944 in the vicinity of Morhange, France. Pvt George W Work is buried at Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio.
