George James Petricka, son of Adolph and Albina (Kotek) Petricka, was born January 4, 1915 in Montgomery, Minnesota. He married Celia Tikalsky January 14, 1941 and the couple had a son, George. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was a supply sergeant in Company B, 60th Engineer Combat Battalion. S/Sgt George J Petricka was killed in action March 7, 1945 in the vicinity of Rheinberg, Germany and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for heroic action during the battle in which he died. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

Staff Sergeant George J Petricka, 37306872, Corps of Engineers, United States
Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy
of the United States in * * * , Germany on 7 March 1945. When the area occupied
by his unit was subjected to intensive enemy artillery and mortar fire,
endangering explosive-laden vehicles and equipment, Sergeant Petricka, a supply
sergeant, volunteered to lead a detail of drivers to move the vehicles to an
assembly area on the outskirts of * * * . As he made his way forward, he was
killed by enemy shellfire. Sergeant Petricka's courageous devotion to duty is in
accord with military tradition. Entered military service from Minnesota. |
