James Elmer Schleifer, son of Elmer Joseph and Elizabeth (Vierow) Schleifer, was born November 8, 1915 in Rochester, New York. He married Jeanette Tracy June 21, 1941 and the couple had a son, James Thomas, born November 15, 1942. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army March 6, 1943 at Rochester, New York. He joined Company B, 60th Engineer Combat Battalion from the 38th Replacement Battalion on October 14, 1944. Pvt James E Schleifer was killed in action by artillery shell fragments December 10, 1944 in the vicinity of Sarreguemines, France. He is buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, New York.
