Note: Casualty information will usually appear on a Battle Casualty Report 1, 2, or 3 days after the date that the casualty actually occured. However, it can appear the on the same date or in some cases significantly later than the date of the casualty. Often it will be recorded when it occurs and again at a later date to indicate when the soldier returned to duty (RTD). Battle Casualty Reports typically contain the soldier's name, rank, army serial number, type of casualty, army MOS (military occupation specialty) code, and the place where the casualty happened. Common abbreviations used in Battle Casualty Reports:
| ALW= Alive and Well | DOI = Died of Injuries | DOW = Died of Wounds |
| KIA = Killed in Action | LIA = Slightly Injured in Action | LWA= Slightly Wounded in Action |
| MIA = Missing in Action | RTD = Returned to Duty | SIA = Seriously Injured in Action |
| SWA = Seriously Wounded in Action |
