134th Infantry Regiment Headquarters Company 2nd Batt. group photo

Headquarters Company, Second Battalion

Back row, left to right - T/Sgt. Joseph Pekarek, Wilbur; T/Sgt. Joseph Mack, Atkinson; Pfc. Howard Brewer, Alliance; S/Sgt. John Tomcak, Cozad.

Front row, left to right -T/Sgt. Herbert J. Meredith, Nebraska City; S/Sgt. Paul Dwyer, Omaha; and Corp. Harold Stein, Omaha.

Also named in the original caption as appearing in the front row was Pfc. Paul E. DeVoss of Bradshaw (see explanation below).

NOTE: This picture as it appears in the 134th Infantry Regiment Combat History of WWII is mislabeled. The number of men in the front row do not match up with the names of those listed in the caption from the unit history book (i.e. 4 men are listed, but only 3 appear in the photo). Two of the soldier whose identities have been positively confirmed by family members are listed below. If anyone can confirm the identity of the other men in the photograph, please send an email to rv_russo@yahoo.com.

UPDATE - MARCH 2002: The soldier on the far right in the back row has been confirmed to be John Tomcak. Thanks to his daughter Janyce Dawson for providing this information.

UPDATE - APRIL 2003: The soldier in the front row left side (with his arms behind his back standing next to the soldier with the scarf around his neck) has been confirmed to be T/Sgt. Herbert J. Meredith. Thanks to his daughter Cynthia Meredith Shields for providing this information.
