Cleopatra, the last ruler of the Macedonian Dynasty, was born around 69 BC. Her ancestor, Ptolemy I, was a general in Alexander the
Great’s army before he became the King of Egypt after Alexander’s death in 323 BC. Cleopatra became the Queen of Egypt at age 18 when
her father died and is one of the most famous female rulers in history. Below: ancient sculpture of Cleopatra.
History
Cleopatra met the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar in 48BC and their love affair resulted in a son who was named Caesarian. She followed
Caesar to Rome however returned to Egypt after his assassination in 44BC. Below: ancient sculpture of Julius Caesar.
Miscellaneous
In 41 BC Cleopatra met another Roman leader, Marc Anthony, who was captivated by her beauty and personality. They remained together
on and off for 11 years and had three children. In 31 BC Cleopatra and Anthony combined their armies to fight the Roman leader Octavian
but were defeated at the Battle of Actium. When Anthony heard the false rumor that Cleopatra was dead he committed suicide by stabbing
